Radio 1 has a target audience of 15-29 year olds although, I feel it only attracts a certain kind of genre during daylight hours, pop which I do not like at all rendering Radio 1 useless to me. Being a big fan of old school 2005> hip hop/rap the only hip hop show that Radio 1 has is hosted by Charlie Sloth who shouts every word he says and the music is no better, its all modern hip hop/rap.
The music that Radio 1 usually plays during the day is mainly top 40 chart music which usually contains genres such as pop and R&B. This format has music has been chosen because most people aged 15-29 use music sites such as iTunes in which they layout the top songs and to get top songs people must be buying them and over time you get a pattern where certain artists get in the top 40 straight away. So people must be listening to their music and therefore people will want to hear it on the radio.
